End product characteristics
Reuse of the end product
The properties of the dried product make this process particularly suitable for the treatment of sludges or other organic sludges for energy production (waste to energy plants, co-firing in cement production plants, plants for energy production from biomass, etc.) or for use in farming.
VOMM Turbo Dryer is the drying plant designed and built by our company.
CONCENTRATION
The VOMM Turbo Concentrator plant is able to concentrate any water or solvent solution, such as:
- SOAPSTOCKS
- OILY SLUDGES OR WASTEWATER FROM REFINERIES
- DRILLING MUDS
- LIQUID FRACTION OF DIGESTATES
- RAW LIVESTOCK FARM MANURE
- LEACHATE
- GALVANIC PROCESS WASTEWATERS
Reuse of the end product
The end product is a significantly smaller volume of a high-viscosity liquid or a semi-solid, which may be reduced to a solid in a second processing stage, at the best convenience.
POLLUTED SOIL DECONTAMINATION
VOMM has developed and patented a specific Turbo Technology application for extracting volatile substances from polluted soils.
Some of the products which can be treated in VOMM Turbo Desorber decontamination plants are:
• SOILS POLLUTED WITH HYDROCARBONS
• SOILS POLLUTED WITH SOLVENTS
• SOILS POLLUTED WITH DIOXINS/PCBs
The VOMM Turbo Desorber plant can be installed off-site or on the site itself, to reduce the costs of handling and transporting the polluted soils.
HOSPITAL WASTE STERILISATION
The VOMM ECO-H *10-6 plant is able to continuously sterilise high volumes of any type of hospital waste (EWC 18.01.03 - 18.02.02).
End product characteristics:
- SAL compliance
- Compliance with European international regulations
- High calorific power (RDF)
Reuse of the end product
It can be reused for heat or electricity production in total safety for man and the environment (product equivalent to municipal waste).
SANITISATION AND STABILISATION
The products with high microbial load (including pathogen microorganisms) which can be treated in VOMM Turbo Dryer sanitisation and stabilisation plants are:
-
CIVIL AND INDUSTRIAL SLUDGES
-
ORGANIC FRACTION OF MUNICIPAL WASTE
-
DIGESTATES
-
FOOD INDUSTRY BYPRODUCTS
-
LIVESTOCK FARM MANURE
End product characteristics
As a result of the multiple thermal shocks it undergoes, the end product is:
-
Highly sanitised,
-
Stabilised over time,
-
Compliant with the US-EPA (Class A) regulations if requested by the customer
Reuse of the end product
It can be reused in farming, both directly applied to the land and as a co-structuring agent in compost.
THERMAL VALORISATION
VOMM's experience also includes the thermal valorisation of civil and industrial sludges and biomasses.
The products which can be treated in VOMM Turbo Energy thermal valorisation plants are:
-
CIVIL AND INDUSTRIAL SLUDGES
-
REFUSE-DERIVED FUEL (RDF/SRF)
-
VEGETABLE BIOMASSES
- ANIMAL BIOMASSES (chicken and other manures, etc.)
-
DIGESTATES
Characteristics of the VOMM Turbo Energy solution:
-
Well tried and tested, highly flexible moving grate technology solution allowing combustion to be optimised with a wide range of products
-
The drying section is thermally self-supporting with no need to use fossil fuels
-
Drastic reduction of incoming waste volumes (up to ten times)
-
Production of electricity and heat.
COOKING
The VOMM Turbo Cooker is a continuous cooking reactor for organic matrices, which favours thermal lysis.
Characteristics
-
Increases anaerobic digester productivity
-
Improves biomass characteristics
-
Heats the substrate, making it suitable for subsequent digestion
STRIPPING
The VOMM Turbo Stripper plant is a continuous reactor which heats the mass continually stirred inside the machine to separate recyclable or undesirable chemicals (NH3, H2S, VOC) in vapour streams.
Characteristics
-
Uniformly heats the organic matrix
-
Removes chemical elements
-
Improves the characteristics of the wastewater sent for treatment
GEOTHEIS
GEOTHEIS, GEO Thermal High Efficiency Integrated System, is the name of a family of VOMM machines including the VOMM Turbo Dryer, VOMM Turbo Cooker and VOMM Turbo Stripper plants, intended for treating different types of products, including:
-
ORGANIC MATRICES (digestates from the organic fraction of municipal solid waste or OFMSW, and food processing industry, agribusiness and livestock farming waste)
-
BIOLOGICAL SLUDGES (civil, industrial and food industry sludges)
-
MUNICIPAL WASTE (coarse and fine materials from screening processes, RDF/SRF)
GEOTHEIS: Solution characteristics
The common denominator of all GEOTHEIS machines is the recovery of material and energy from the various matrices treated, as part of a circular economy approach.
GEOTHEIS: Reuse of the end product
Thanks to these machines' outstanding flexibility, the end product obtained may have various reuses: farming, composting, fuel, etc.
ANAEROBIC DIGESTION
Anaerobic digestion is a process which completes the range of equipment designed and built by VOMM, used to treat the organic fraction of municipal solid waste (OFMSW).
Characteristic
1. Wet process
Using the flexibility of the Wet System and its experience in thermal treatment processes, during the last three years VOMM has developed an Advanced Wet System.
Operating Principle
The process comprises a stripping system which removes the ammonium nitrogen, optimising recycling of the liquid digestate and the effluent treatment line, and a second heat treatment to dry the solid fraction of the digestate.
The typical layout involves the production of biomethane from the biogas produced, alongside the self-generation of the electricity necessary for the plant's operation using a cogenerator supplied with mains natural gas. The thermal energy required by the thermal systems is largely obtained by recycling the heat from the flue gases and the cogenerator cooling water circuit.
Main benefits
-
significant reduction or complete elimination of the area required for composting
-
production of a material easily sold as fertiliser
-
simplification of the wastewater treatment system thanks to the substantial reduction of the ammonium nitrogen in the liquid fraction
-
recycling of the treated water to the process, with consequent drastic reduction of the water intake
-
significant reduction in the areas required for the entire anaerobic process
-
the use of the waste heat available in the plant
